Zhang Yaxi - Contemporary Chinese Sculptor
Monumental Snow Sculpture - Harbin, China

Snow sculpture is ephemeral, lasting only one season, and it is created in harsh weather conditions, yet it is a very enjoyable form of sculpture, besides being a challenge experience in that one is only given a few days in which to carve the piece from a block of solid snow.

Created during the Harbin Snow Sculpture Symposium 2001 in Harbin, in the Northeast of China by a team comprised of Chinese sculptor Zhang Yaxi, French sculptor Laury Dizengremel with the help of their friend Bai Yuliang, this monumental "Pregnant" (Fertility) snow sculpture was awarded third prize.
