Zhang Yaxi - Contemporary Chinese Sculptor
"Tennis Terracotta Warriors"
Wangqiu Bingmayong
before leaving the Tank Loft Contemporary Arts Center in Chongqing

Zhang Yaxi, along with fellow Chinese sculptor Shen Xiaonan and French sculptor Laury Dizengremel created the 8 Tennis Terracotta Warriors (Wangqiu Binmayong) for the ATP / Tennis Master Cup Shanghai 2007. These are monumental sculptures, approx. 2m20 in height.

This shot was created by our friend David McBride who is a keen photographer and teaches animation at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. We didn't have the time to line the Warriors up in any particular order, but they looked great against one of the walls of the Tank Loft Contemporary Arts Center in Chongqing where our studio is located. David took this in several shots and did his magic... so the walls are now curved rather than straight!
